The Graduate Institute of Nutrition and Food Science to offer doctoral degree was firstly established in 1995. In 2010, this graduate institute was transformed into the interdepartmental Ph.D. program with the support of Departments of Nutritional Science, Food Science, Department of Restaurant, Hotel and Institutional Management, Department of Textiles and Clothing at College of Human Ecology, and Graduate Institute of Basic Medicine at College of Medicine. This Ph.D. Program became the first integrative Graduate Study Groups in Taiwan to provide multi-discipline training of research and coursed in the fields of Nutrition, Food and Biomedicine, to those interested. The education missions of this Ph.D. program are the followings: (1) to train the teaching professions; (2) to cultivate advanced R&D professions; (3) to prepare the leaders in academic, government and business institute with necessary backgrounds. The research focus and perspectives of this Ph.D. program include fifteen research cores such as phytochemical bioavailability, food toxicology, food bioactive and functional analysis, food toxicology, lipid metabolisms, micronutrient metabolism, community nutrition, reproduction, neurodegenerative diseases prevention, and cancer prevention and prognosis, etc. By translation of the basic science research conducted with cellular, animal models and human subjects to meet today’s challenges, we aim to provide tomorrow’s healthy life style with innovation in the functional foods and foods safety, human nutrition in diseases prevention and prognosis, and promotion of life quality as well as human wellness.
